ELEMENTARY & SECONDARY SCHOOL RELIEF FUND III (ESSER III)

Elementary and Secondary School Relief (ESSER) Funds are funding received through the American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act to provide public schools with resources to support local recovery needs and efforts in response to COVID-19. Horizon Honors Schools has been allocated $886,920 in ESSER III funds to spend by September 30, 2024.

Currently, Horizon Honors Schools is committed to using the majority of the funds to address the academic impact of lost instructional time and create a plan to respond to the academic, social, emotional, and mental health needs of all students, and particularly those students disproportionately impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Horizon Honors Schools will continue to evaluate the ESSER III plan to support student learning based on data analysis at the school level and community feedback.

ESSER III Plan Components:

  • Adoption of an evidence-based trauma-informed program for all staff to be trained over the 2022-2023 school year.  This program will support the social-emotional needs of all students and staff as a result of the pandemic, particularly those vulnerable populations of students.

  • Contract with an outside tutoring vendor to provide academic support to students during the summer and after-school hours as identified by school assessments.

  • Curriculum review and adoption for math and science materials.

  • Continuation of support to partially fund the campus School Resource Officer to improve preparedness and response effort of our school.

  • Continuation of the Secondary Academic Advisor to support students in their college and career planning.

  • Continuation of the Elementary Interventionist for small group interventions targeting areas of learning loss.

  • Continuation of the 5-6 Teachers Assistant position to target support within the classrooms of 5th and 6th grade students.

  • Provide a retention stipend to all staff to continue to work on retaining high-quality and consistent staff for all students in and out of the classroom throughout the entire school year.

  • Upgrade air filtration system to improve air quality in the classrooms and offices.

ESSER III has a requirement for schools to engage the community in the development of the plan, share the plan on our website, and guarantee 20% of the funds are set aside to address unfinished learning as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly among vulnerable populations of students.  Please provide feedback to our current plan by using the form below.  We welcome your comments and suggestions as we work to support students in our community.
